Team Mathews delivered another impressive performance at the 2026 NFAA Marked 3D National Championships & Western Classic Trail Shoot, winning five out of nine podiums in one of the most challenging and competitive fields in 3D archery.

Hosted each year in Redding, California, this event is often regarded as the premier marked-distance 3D tournament in the world, challenging archers with distances extending beyond 100 yards, across a variety of difficult terrain features.

Leading the way for Team Mathews, Team Shooter Kyle Douglas secured 1st place in the Men’s division, delivering a standout performance across all three days of competition. With this win, Douglas secures his fifth 1st place finish of the 2026 season, continuing to build on an already record-setting year.

In the Women’s division, Team Shooters Beretta McKee secured 2nd place, while Katelyn Bordwell rounded out the podium with a 3rd place finish.

Team Mathews extended its success in the Senior division, where Tim Audus earned 1st place, and Tim Gillingham added a 3rd place finish, further showcasing the team’s abilities across multiple divisions.

“The Redding shoot is one of the ultimate tests in archery,” said Derek Phillips, Mathews Prostaff Manager. “This event demands precision at extended distances, leaving little room for error. We are really proud of the team and how they performed. Competing against the best in the world and coming away with multiple podium finishes is a testament to their versatility and determination.”

Team Mathews will be setting its sights for next ASA Pro/Am event located in London, KY on May 28-30th. Follow Team Mathews through the 2026 tournament season on Mathews Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

New Mexico arrived at the 2026 NASP® Western National Bullseye Tournament with confidence, composure, and a wave of rising archery talent—and the results did not disappoint. From elementary rookies to seasoned high school competitors, New Mexico’s athletes posted personal records, cracked national top tens, and proved the state’s archery programs are rapidly climbing the national ranks.

High School Division: Veterans Lead the Charge

New Mexico’s high school girls fired off some of the state’s strongest-ever national performances. Early College High School junior Ashlynn McGinnis headlined the group, blasting a 291 with 22 tens to finish 7th in the nation and 3rd among 11th‑grade girls. Sams Academy freshman Rhiannon Ramos added a powerful 285, good for 27th nationally, while Axiom Christian Classical junior Lily Zunic secured a top‑50 finish with a clean, disciplined 282. Early College’s Aerona Stewart and a deep group including Kealanie Tyquiengco, Raya Morgan, and Isabel Figueroa kept New Mexico well represented throughout the top 100–150 ranks.

On the boys’ side, Sams Academy’s Wyatt Otero led New Mexico with a 281 and a 71st‑place national finish. Estancia Valley Classical’s Uriah Cruz followed close behind with a 280, while Early College’s Cody Warren posted a personal‑best 278 in a tightening field of national contenders. Another strong 276 from teammate Luis Armendariz capped a deep bench of more than a dozen high school boys scoring 251–273.

Middle School Division: A Breakout Star Emerges

The middle school division delivered one of New Mexico’s biggest national moments. Sixth grader Hugo Hashagen of Albuquerque Academy electrified the field with a stunning 290—earning 4th among all middle school boys nationwide and 1st among 6th‑grade boys. His performance marked one of the highest national placements in New Mexico NASP® history.

Estancia Valley Classical’s Dean Cillessen (281) and Red Mountain MS standout Isaac Ramirez (279) added depth to the state’s national impact, both securing top‑40 placements among hundreds of competitors.

New Mexico’s middle school girls carried their momentum too: Red Mountain’s Johana Gonzalez shot a personal‑best 268 to place 108th nationally, followed closely by teammates Fabiola Villagran (267) and Irene Gomez (265). Taylor Middle School sixth grader Lily McWenie added a 264 to finish 31st nationally for her grade, anchoring a growing wave of young female shooters.

Elementary Division: Rising Talent Takes the Stage

New Mexico’s youngest archers showcased grit and poise rarely seen at the national level. Cubero Elementary’s Aliya Chino punched an impressive 251 to finish top 55 in the nation and 6th among all 4th‑grade girls, marking her as one of the state’s brightest up‑and‑coming archers. Maggie Cordova’s Ashlie Rogers followed with a strong 248 finish.

In the boys’ division, Estancia Valley Classical’s Nikolas Griego posted a personal‑best 262, landing inside the top 40 nationally and 31st among 5th‑grade boys. Teammate Carson Rose added a 255 and a top‑60 finish, while Maggie Cordova’s Isaiah Nieto achieved a personal‑best 241. A long list of emerging shooters—including David Lansa, Shaun Sausa, Eli Chavez, Daniel Grajeda, Dominic Goins, and Arjay Mathews—rounded out a promising elementary roster.

Team Performances Highlight Growing Statewide Strength

New Mexico teams also held their own against the region’s strongest programs. Early College High School finished 25th nationally, Sams Academy secured 37th, and Red Mountain Middle School placed an impressive 17th in a deep field of 41 teams. Maggie Cordova Elementary gained crucial national experience with a 21st‑place finish among elementary teams.

A State on the Rise

With a national top‑10 finisher, a 6th‑grade national champion, and a wave of personal bests across all divisions, New Mexico’s presence at the 2026 Western Nationals was impossible to ignore. These results signal a powerful surge in the state’s NASP® programs and set the stage for even bigger moments as athletes turn their sights toward upcoming national and state competitions.

FeraDyne Outdoors – Superior, WI – May 2026

Carbon Express® proudly congratulates pro archer James “Jimmy” Lutz on his victory at the APX Championship hosted by Archery Pro Extreme, where he topped a highly competitive field, defeating Mathias Fullerton and Louis Price to secure the title.

Coming off his recent world-record performance, Lutz continues to build momentum in the 2026 season, further establishing himself as one of the premier competitors in the sport.

Lutz secured the win shooting Carbon Express Nano PRO® RZ 350 arrows—the brand’s premier compound field archery arrow—while competing with a TruFire® Rivet release, delivering the precision, consistency, and confidence needed to perform at the highest level on an international stage.

“Jimmy is shooting with incredible confidence right now,” said Zach Godwin, Brand Manager of Carbon Express. “Wins like this—against top-tier competition—show exactly who he is as a competitor. We’re proud to support him with equipment he trusts, and even more proud of how he’s representing himself and our team.”

The Nano PRO® platform represents Carbon Express’s most advanced arrow engineering, purpose-built for the demands of field archery competition. The Nano PRO® RZ, designed for compound shooters, and the Nano PRO® X-Treme, engineered specifically for recurve archers, are optimized for long-range accuracy, repeatability, and control across varying distances and conditions.

Both arrows feature Carbon Express’s proprietary technologies:

· Tri-Spine Weight Forward Technology isolates dynamic flex to a controlled center “Red Zone,” allowing the arrow to recover faster and stabilize more quickly in flight

· 360° Spine Technology ensures uniform stiffness around the entire shaft, eliminating weak-side bias and delivering consistent, repeatable performance regardless of orientation

· Laser-Sorted, Weight-Matched Precision ensures every arrow is individually measured and matched, reducing variables and delivering unmatched consistency from shot to shot

Together, these technologies produce a more stable, predictable arrow flight—minimizing oscillation, improving downrange accuracy, and giving archers the confidence to execute under pressure in demanding competitive environments.

Lutz’s victory at the APX Championship reinforces the strong return of Carbon Express to elite competition and highlights the brand’s commitment to supporting top-tier athletes with best-in-class equipment.

The Nano PRO® RZ (compound field) and Nano PRO® X-Treme (recurve field) arrows will be available worldwide later this month through authorized dealers.

Carbon Express congratulates Jimmy Lutz and the entire Carbon Express Pro Staff on an outstanding performance and continued success in the 2026 season.

The Nanos are back—and winning on the world stage.

FeraDyne Outdoors — Superior, WI — April 2026

Carbon Express® proudly congratulates pro archer James “Jimmy” Lutz on a historic performance at the 2026 Gator Cup, where he set a new world record in the 50-meter, 72-arrow round with a score of 719, surpassing the previous mark of 718 that had stood for over a decade.

Lutz achieved this milestone shooting Carbon Express Nano PRO® RZ 350 arrows—the brand’s premier compound field archery arrow—while also competing with a TruFire® Rivet release, delivering elite-level precision and consistency on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

The 2026 Gator Cup also marked Carbon Express’s return to national-level competition after a six-year absence, with Lutz leading a revitalized pro staff into the outdoor season.

“World records like this belong to the shooter first,” said Zach Godwin, Brand Manager of Carbon Express. “Jimmy executed at the highest level when it mattered most. We’re proud he trusted our Nano PRO® RZ arrows in that moment. These arrows are purpose-built for field archery, where consistency and recovery shot after shot is everything, and this performance is a powerful example of what happens when elite talent and the right equipment come together.”

· Laser-Sorted, Weight-Matched Precision provides unmatched consistency from arrow to arrow, reducing variables and tightening groups at the highest levels of competition

Together, these technologies create a more stable, predictable arrow flight—minimizing oscillation, improving downrange accuracy, and giving archers the confidence to perform under pressure in demanding field environments.

Lutz’s record-setting performance is not only a milestone for his career, but a defining moment in the return of Carbon Express to elite competitive archery. It signals a renewed commitment to innovation, athlete support, and delivering equipment capable of winning on the world stage.

The Nano PRO® RZ (compound field) and Nano PRO® X-Treme (recurve field) arrows will be available worldwide in May 2026 through authorized dealers.

Carbon Express extends its congratulations to Jimmy Lutz and the entire Carbon Express Pro Staff on an outstanding start to the 2026 outdoor season.

The Nanos are back—and the world has been put on notice. For more information, visit your local Carbon Express dealer or go to www.carbonexpressarrows.com.

The 2026 NASP® Western National Tournament brought together thousands of student archers, educators, and families for an exciting celebration of skill, sportsmanship, and in-school archery. Held at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy, Utah, this three-day event continues to serve as a premier stage for NASP® student archers across the western United States.

Participation in the Western National Tournament reflects the continued growth and impact of NASP® in schools. Students who begin archery as part of their school day have the opportunity to step onto a national stage—demonstrating not only their abilities on the range, but also the confidence and discipline developed through the program.

Based on pre-registration numbers, the 2026 Western National Tournament welcomed:
• Bullseye Tournament: 2,397 registered archers representing 289 schools across 25 states
• NASP® 3D Tournament: 2,130 registered archers representing 218 schools across 21 states

These numbers highlight the strong interest in both disciplines and the continued expansion of NASP® 3D as part of the full NASP® experience, while also showcasing the national reach of the Western National Tournament.

Beyond the competition, the Western National Tournament continues to evolve into a full event experience for students and families. One of the most anticipated additions in recent years is the NASP® pin trading program, where teams and participants bring custom pins to exchange, creating connections and lasting memories across schools and states.

To further enhance engagement throughout the venue, participants took part in a scavenger hunt within the NASP® app, encouraging exploration of the vendor area and interaction with participating partners. This interactive experience added another layer of fun to the event, giving students a way to stay involved even when they weren’t on the shooting line.

The Western National Tournament represents the full NASP® journey—from first-time archers introduced in a school gymnasium to experienced competitors navigating both Bullseye and NASP® 3D courses. As NASP® 3D continues to grow, it provides archers with a broader experience, encouraging versatility and rewarding those who excel across multiple disciplines.

Top-performing archers from the Western National Tournament will carry that momentum forward to the NASP® Championship, where they will compete alongside qualifiers from across the country.

NASP® staff now looks ahead to the next stop in the national tournament series, the Eastern National Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, where thousands more student archers will take the line and continue the momentum of the season.

NASP® would also like to extend sincere thanks to our dedicated sponsors and partners whose continued support makes events like the Western National Tournament possible. Their commitment helps ensure students across the country have access to meaningful, in-school archery opportunities and experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

As NASP® continues to grow, events like the Western National Tournament remain a powerful reminder of what happens when students are given access to in-school opportunities—creating pathways not only for competition, but for lifelong participation in archery and outdoor recreation.

TEAM MATHEWS BREAKS COMPOUND QUALIFICATION WORLD RECORD

Sparta, Wisconsin – The 2026 Gator Cup once again proved to be one of the most competitive events in target archery, drawing more than 800 archers to the Easton Newberry Archery Center for a key stop on the USA Archery USAT Series.

Competing against a stout competition field, Team Mathews produced standout performances and podium finishes across multiple divisions.

The event was highlighted by a historic qualification round from Team Shooter Jimmy Lutz, who set a new 72-arrow 50-meter compound world record with a score of 719 out of a possible 720. While Lutz ultimately finished second in the Compound Men’s division, his performance will etch his name into the archery world record books.

Joining Lutz on the podium was teammate Kyle Douglas, who secured a third-place finish in the same division, further underscoring this historic event for Team Mathews and USA Archery.

Stacking onto the weekend’s success, Team Shooter Olivia Dean delivered a commanding performance to claim the Compound Women’s title, adding another major win to an already impressive season.

“Jimmy’s record-setting round is a testament to just how high the bar has been raised in our sport right now,” said Derek Phillips, Mathews Prostaff Manager. “To see a performance like that—combined with multiple podium finishes from our team, including strong showings in both the men’s and women’s divisions – speaks volumes about the level our athletes are competing at and the consistency they’re delivering on the biggest stages.”

The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®) continues to demonstrate steady growth and impacts in schools across the country—both on the range and in the classroom. The 2025–2026 school year saw an impressive 12.3% increase in students being recognized for academic success compared to the previous year.

This continued growth reflects strong demand from educators, students, and communities seeking meaningful, in-school opportunities that engage students in new ways.

“This kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident,” said NASP® President Tommy Floyd. “It happens because educators see the impact. Students who may not have found their place in traditional activities are finding success, confidence, and connection through archery.”

More than 100 new schools reported having Academic Archers this year. With each participating school and every student who identifies as an Academic Archer, the meaning behind that achievement continues to grow.

Educators through NASP® remain committed to providing inclusive opportunities that reach all students. Because NASP® is delivered during the school day, it removes many of the traditional barriers to participation—such as after-school transportation—and ensures access regardless of background or experience.

Carri Garrett from Easton Technical Products said, “At Easton, we believe the values children learn through archery—focus, discipline, and confidence—are clearly demonstrated through NASP®. That’s why we are proud to support the NASP® Academic Archer Program.”

She continued, “NASP® has shown how archery can positively impact students, not only on the range but in the classroom. We’ve seen firsthand how the program helps students build confidence, stay engaged, and believe in their ability to achieve their goals. By supporting NASP®, we’re investing in young people who will shape the future. We’re honored to be part of both NASP® and the Academic Archer Program.”

Across these growing programs, teachers consistently report improvements in student focus, behavior, and classroom engagement—outcomes that align directly with NASP®’s mission to support educational performance through archery.

Each year, ten students will receive a new Genesis bow in the color of their choice, along with custom Easton Academic Archer arrows, via a random drawing NASP® would like to thank Easton Archery for their generous donation of arrows in support of these students. Academic Archer nominations for the 2026–2027 school year will open on September 1, 2026.

Looking ahead, NASP® has set an ambitious goal for the coming year: recognizing 50,000 Academic Archers.

“This next goal represents more than a number,” Floyd added. “It represents opportunity. Every new school means more students discovering something they’re good at, something they enjoy, and something that connects them to their school community.”

As NASP® continues to grow, the focus remains the same: providing a safe, engaging program that changes lives, one arrow at a time.

Magnet Cove High School archery streak continues

The high school archers from Magnet Cove earned the top spot in the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Archery in the Schools 3D State Championship Saturday at Pangburn High School on April 10-11, completing their second consecutive sweep of Arkansas archery events in the last two years.

The Panthers outscored 13 other archery teams during the event, scoring 1,710 points out of a possible 1,800 total. The team was anchored by four archers who finished in the top five for their division (Cash and Callan Hignight in the High School Boys Division, and Holly Chandler and Karlee Castle in the High School Girls Division).

Lead Hill High School placed second with a score of 1,675 points; Ozark High School was third with 1,650 points; followed by Bryant High School with 1,644 points and Cabot High School with 1,633 points.

“The difference in some of these scores is literally one or two arrows from a team’s total 180 shots during the day, so the competition is really tight,” Aimee Swaim, AIS Program coordinator for the AGFC, said. “Just about every Magnet Cove archer was either in the top five shooters for their class or only an arrow or two out, and that’s what made the difference. I’m proud of all our archers for such an amazing competition and show of sportsmanship.”

The top high school boys’ results were near carbon copies of this year’s bull’s-eye championship, with Magnet Cove’s Cash Hignight and Lead Hill High School’s Travis Cook posting identical scores of 294 (out of a possible 300). The two also scored the same number of 10s and 9s, with neither posting anything lower. In the end, Hignight prevailed and walked away with a $500 scholarship, courtesy of the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation.

The top high school girls’ competition was also fierce, with Magnet Cove’s Holly Chandler edging out Charleston High School’s perennial standout Maddie Johnson by two points. Again, only one slightly errant shot by Johnson was the difference in this tight archery showdown. Chandler also received a $500 scholarship from the AGFF for her accomplishment.

A total of 694 archers, representing 43 schools throughout Arkansas, competed in this year’s AIS Program 3D Challenge State Tournament. This is the third year of the new discipline being added to the program, and Swaim says it continues to grow in popularity.

“I really have to thank the coaches and staff at Pangburn for getting the ball rolling on this part of the program,” Swaim said. “In 2024, we added this tournament to give our students the opportunity to compete in more than one event at the national level, but it’s also bringing our students a step closer to understanding our agency and conservation efforts.”

During the 3D challenge, students rotate through a course of six 3D targets fashioned after North American game animals: turkey, coyote, bear, pronghorn, white-tailed deer and stone sheep. The turkey is set at the 10-meter mark, and the course angles up to the 15-meter mark, ending at the stone sheep. Each archer shoots five arrows for score at each target.

“We had more than 3,000 arrows shot over the weekend and approximately 3,500 spectators at the event,” Swaim said. “We’re already looking at how we can expand to accommodate even more archers next year. It’s going to be as popular as the bull’s-eye competition within a few years if it keeps growing like this.”
