A common definition of innovation is “a change made to an existing product or idea.” Few descriptions better capture the story of Last Chance Archery (LCA), a company that has thrived for more than two decades by continually asking one simple question:

Is there a better way?

At LCA, innovation is about more than creating something new. It is the intersection of creative thought, keen observation, determination, and detailed engineering. It means recognizing a problem, imagining a solution, and doing the hard work required to turn that solution into a product that makes life easier, safer, or more efficient for the people who use it.

That philosophy has driven Last Chance Archery from the beginning.

It Started With a Bow Flying Through the Air

In 2004, LCA founder Leon Pittman witnessed something at a local pro shop that would ultimately change the way bows are pressed throughout the archery industry.

At the time, pressing a compound bow commonly involved pulling on the bow’s riser to compress its limbs. Those who worked with bows during that era may remember the risks involved, including the occasional bow that came shooting upward out of the press.

Leon witnessed exactly that.

As he watched a bow launch out of a press and into the air, his immediate thought was that there had to be a better, safer, and easier way.

That observation became an idea. The idea became a design. The design became Last Chance Archery’s first limb-tip compression bow press. This design was awarded two patents that are still active today.

#1: Patent: 7,597,094 B2 – Limb Tip Compression Bow Press

#2: Patent: US 7,644,708 B2 – Limb Tip Compression Fingers

What began as a solution to one problem ultimately helped revolutionize the way pro shops and archers press compound bows. Today, LCA offers 15 versions of its bow press, including the industry’s first powered bow press. These models provide options for everyone, from individual archers to high-volume professional shops.

But the bow press was only the beginning.

Innovation Becomes a Family Tradition

As an inventor and innovator, Leon was directly involved in the conception and design of LCA’s earliest products. As the company grew, so did the number of family members bringing their own ideas and abilities to the process.

Leon’s grandson, Jonathan Clark, and son-in-law, Chris Clark, have contributed to the development of numerous products over the years. Additionally, Leon’s grandsons, Cody Clark and Justin Clark, bring their own unique skills to the process, helping move ideas from prototypes through machining and manufacturing and, ultimately, into production.

That collaboration has helped create something unique at LCA: innovation that spans generations.

An idea may begin with one person noticing a problem, but bringing a product to market requires many different talents. It takes imagination, engineering, machining, testing, refinement, and sometimes a willingness to start over when the first idea does not work as expected.

For LCA, that process happens under one roof and within one family.

Looking at Familiar Problems Differently

Some of the best innovations do not come from inventing an entirely new task. They come from looking at something people have done for years and finding a better way to do it.

The Vane Master Pro is one example. LCA set out to develop an exceptionally versatile fletching tool and created a system featuring an adjustable zero-to-five-degree helical single clamp, Vane Flat Technology, 4, 5, and 6 fletch add-on options, and compatibility with vanes up to four inches long. The Vane Master Pro was just another product in LCA’s lineup that was awarded a patent. Patent: 8,517,362; that’s still active today.

Then there was another familiar problem: carbon dust.

Pro shop owners may cut hundreds or even thousands of arrows over time. With modern carbon-fiber arrows, that process can produce fine carbon dust that is both messy and a potential long-term health concern.

Again, LCA asked: Is there a better way?

The answer became the Revolution Arrow Saw. Its water-drip technology helps dampen carbon dust at the cutting point, while an integrated vacuum receiver accommodates most wet/dry vacuum systems. Rather than accepting dust as an unavoidable part of cutting arrows, the LCA team engineered a way to better control it.

More recently, LCA worked with Genesis Archery and CenterShotMinistries to develop the new Genesis Fletching Jig. This jig works for any archer, any arrow shaft, and any vane or feather up to 3” in length. But many key features are Genesis-archer-specific, allowing for even easier fletching for up-and-coming archers.

Other new products include the FlightCheck, FlightPaper, Universal Tuning Gauge, the entire Wrapworks line, Precision Flex Cutter, WrapWorks Mat, and many more new products to come.

Making Precision More Accessible

Innovation is not always about making something more complicated. Sometimes, the challenge is to take a complicated process and make it simpler.

The Universal Tuning Gauge was created with exactly that goal in mind. This affordable, multipurpose tool allows archers and technicians to measure string angles; document peep, nose-button, and kisser-button positions; check brace height, center shot, cam lean, and tiller; and establish nock height.

One tool. Multiple measurements. A simpler process.

That same philosophy led to another recent LCA innovation: FlightCheck.

Paper tuning has long been one of the most widely used methods for evaluating and tuning bow-and-arrow setups. Rather than simply accepting the traditional process, the LCA team looked at it and asked another question:

How can we make this easier, more consistent, and more repeatable?

The answer started with the paper itself.

LCA developed custom graphics printed on continuous rolls containing 113 target templates per roll and 42 aiming dots per template. The printed aiming points provide a consistent reference for short-range shooting.

But the team did not stop there.

The next challenge was to create a delivery system that could hold and advance the paper efficiently. LCA designed a system that allows the custom paper rolls to be advanced as they are used and can be configured with an add-on floor stand or a wall mount.

The result is FlightCheck and FlightPaper, a purpose-built paper-tuning system designed to provide pro shop technicians and individual archers with a clean, consistent, and repeatable tuning process. Do you use a homemade paper tuner setup? No problem; the FlightPaper rolls use a standard 1’ core

that works on most tuners no matter the design. Giving you both tuning instructions and aiming dots at your fingertips during the entire paper tuning process.

It is another example of a principle that has guided LCA from the beginning: Do not simply accept the way something has always been done. Look for an opportunity to make it better.

Innovation Behind the Products

At Last Chance Archery, innovation does not stop with product development.

It is also reflected in how those products are manufactured.

LCA has continually invested in software, equipment, technology, and manufacturing processes designed to increase productivity and efficiency. The objective is not simply to manufacture products faster. Greater efficiency helps LCA control manufacturing costs while continuing to build quality products at prices customers can afford.

That balance matters.

A great idea has little impact if the finished product is impractical or priced beyond the reach of the people it was created to serve. For LCA, successful innovation means developing products that solve real problems and then finding a way to manufacture those products efficiently enough to put them into the hands of the archers and pro shops that need them.

The Next Innovation Is Already Coming

More than 20 years after Leon Pittman watched a bow fly out of a press and thought, “There has to be a better way,” that same mindset continues to drive Last Chance Archery.

Today, there are more LCA products than can reasonably be covered in a single article. Each has its own story, but nearly all begin in much the same way: Someone sees a problem, asks a question, and starts working toward a solution.

The work is far from finished.

LCA has set a goal of introducing three to five new products each year. That means that somewhere inside the Last Chance Archery facility, the next idea may already be taking shape—on a computer screen, in a conversation, on a CNC machine, or as a prototype being tested and refined.

Technology will change. Archery equipment will evolve. Manufacturing will continue to advance.

But the question that started Last Chance Archery remains the same:

Is there a better way?

For the LCA family, finding the answer is not simply what they do.

It is who they are.

From our family to yours, thank you. Our customers, dealers, and partners are the reason we can continue doing what we love, and we never forget the role you play in our story.

Keep an eye on us.

The next great LCA innovation may be right around the corner.

If you’re looking to upgrade your archery setup without spending full retail, the BIGshot Archery Blem Sale is worth checking out. The sale features a selection of blemished BIGshot targets offered at reduced prices, giving archers an opportunity to save while still getting a quality target for practice.

The “blem” designation generally refers to minor cosmetic imperfections, rather than a reason to overlook the target’s purpose. The current selection includes everything from traditional practice targets to realistic 3D targets, including deer, coyote, raccoon, groundhog, mountain goat, and Dall sheep models.

Prices vary depending on the model, with current examples including the Pro-Hunter 16 at $99.99, the Titan 10XS at $149.99, and the Titan 10X HD at $169.99. Some of the larger 3D targets offer even greater savings compared with their regular prices.

For hunters, competitive archers, or anyone who spends plenty of time practicing, a blemished target can be a practical way to get more value from your budget. Inventory is limited, and popular models can sell out, so it’s worth taking a look before your preferred target is gone.

NEW ULM, Minn. — The Archery Trade Association (ATA) today announced that CEO & President Jeff Poole will retire on January 31, 2027, concluding five years of transformative leadership at the helm of the archery and bowhunting industry’s premier trade organization.

Poole assumed leadership of the ATA during a critical and uncertain period following the COVID-19 pandemic. Navigating post-pandemic market dynamics and shifting consumer demands, his steady vision provided vital stability and unified industry stakeholders. Under his direction, the ATA reimagined its signature annual gathering, successfully evolving it into a dynamic, three-part industry celebration that brings together the core Trade Show, the consumer-focused Bowhunters Super Show, and a premier archery tournament. This expanded footprint broadened the event’s reach, energizing both business-to-business commerce and grassroots archery enthusiasm.

Poole was also instrumental in the launch and expansion of Bowhunters United, an initiative that quickly emerged as a unified voice for the archery and bowhunting community. By cultivating a dedicated grassroots base, Bowhunters United significantly grew membership while advocating for the protection, promotion, and preservation of bowhunting nationwide. In tandem with these membership initiatives, Poole guided the ATA team through critical legislative and conservation efforts, championing policies to protect public land access, secure habitat conservation funding, and safeguarding the interests of manufacturers and independent retailers across North America.

“Jeff stepped into the ATA at a pivotal moment and led our industry through complex transitions with clarity and steady leadership,” said Jonathan Lene, ATA Board Chairman. “On behalf of the ATA Board of Directors and the entire staff, we extend our deepest gratitude to Jeff for his five years of dedicated service. He has positioned this organization for sustainable, long-term growth, and while he will be missed, we wish him and his family the very best as he embarks on a well-deserved retirement.”

Looking ahead, Poole is eager to spend more time with his family and begin checking off items from his retirement bucket list, while continuing to support the sport he has served throughout his career.

The ATA Board of Directors has initiated an executive search to identify the next CEO & President who will guide the organization into its next chapter and build upon the solid foundation Poole, and his team have established over the past five years.

Qualified candidates interested in applying for the CEO & President position can submit their resumes and credentials to careers@archerytrade.org.

About the Archery Trade Association

The Archery Trade Association is the organization for manufacturers, retailers, distributors, sales representatives, and other industry professionals focused on promoting the sports of archery and bowhunting. The ATA works tirelessly to grow archery and bowhunting participation, protect industry rights, and ensure the long-term vitality of the sport.

When hunters invest in a permanent blind, they’re looking for more than a place to sit—they want a setup that will perform season after season. That’s exactly where the Banks Outdoors Stump series has built its reputation. Designed for serious hunters who demand comfort, durability, and all-day concealment, these blinds are engineered to withstand years of exposure while keeping hunters focused on the action outside.

Unlike traditional wooden blinds that require regular maintenance, the Stump series features rugged, roto-molded polyethylene construction that won’t rot, rust, or deteriorate from the elements. The bark-textured exterior blends naturally into wooded environments while providing a tough shell capable of handling harsh weather from early bow season through the depths of winter.

One of the defining characteristics of the Stump lineup is visibility. Round and oval designs, along with multiple silent-operating windows, allow hunters to cover nearly every angle without constantly repositioning. Whether you’re waiting on a mature whitetail slipping through timber or watching multiple food plot entrances, the expansive sightlines make it easier to stay ready for the shot. Many models also feature Banks’ Phantom window system, which uses tinted windows to help conceal movement inside the blind while maintaining a clear view outside.

Comfort is another area where the Stump series shines. Models range from compact one- and two-person options like the Stump 2 to larger configurations such as the Stump 4 and spacious Sequoia, giving hunters plenty of room for family members, hunting partners, or extra gear. With insulated options, accessory packages, and customizable tower or ground-blind configurations, hunters can tailor their setup to fit virtually any property or hunting style.

The versatility of the lineup also appeals to a wide range of hunters. Some models are optimized for firearm and crossbow hunting, while others feature true 360-degree shooting opportunities that bowhunters appreciate when deer appear from unexpected directions. Banks even offers Scout and Ice configurations, expanding the usefulness of the platform well beyond the traditional deer season.

Hunters who have spent time comparing premium blind options often mention Banks Outdoors alongside the industry’s top names, citing the combination of durable construction, thoughtful window design, and long-term reliability as major advantages. That reputation has helped make the Stump series a popular choice for landowners looking to create dependable hunting locations that can be enjoyed for years to come.

Whether you’re building a permanent hunting property or upgrading an aging blind, the Banks Outdoors Stump series offers a solution designed to keep you comfortable, concealed, and ready when the opportunity finally steps into range.

Success in the fall often begins months before a hunter ever climbs into a stand. Habitat improvements, trail camera surveys, food sources, and mineral sites all play a role in understanding the deer that call a property home. While every piece of the puzzle matters, a productive mineral site can become one of the most valuable tools for monitoring and managing a healthy herd.

That’s where Rack RX 365 Deer Mineral is beginning to stand out.

Across the country, hunters are sharing stories of active mineral sites that seem to come alive almost as soon as the product hits the ground. Establishing a new mineral location can sometimes take time, but many Rack RX 365 users report seeing consistent deer activity far sooner than expected. Those early visits often turn into regular patterns, creating dependable locations for trail camera photos and herd observation.

For bowhunters, that information is invaluable. Watching bucks develop through the summer, identifying travel routes, and tracking the growth of young deer all help paint a clearer picture of the season ahead. A well-placed mineral site offers more than great trail camera images—it provides insight into the health and makeup of the local deer population.

Nutrition is another important piece of effective wildlife management. Throughout the year, whitetails face changing nutritional demands, from recovering after winter to supporting antler development and raising healthy fawns. While natural forage remains their primary food source, providing supplemental minerals can complement an overall management program and encourage deer to return to areas where their progress can be monitored over time.

One reason Rack RX 365 continues to gain attention is its performance in a wide variety of environments. Hunters managing agricultural fields, hardwood forests, pine plantations, and mixed habitats have all reported encouraging results. That versatility makes it a practical option whether you’re maintaining an established property or improving a new hunting lease.

Perhaps the strongest endorsement comes from the people using it. Hunters continue to describe heavy deer activity at their mineral sites, with repeat visits becoming the norm rather than the exception. That kind of consistent feedback is helping Rack RX 365 build a loyal following among land managers and bowhunters who want to invest in both the present and future of their deer herd.

Whether your goal is capturing more trail camera photos, learning more about the deer on your property, or supporting a long-term management strategy, a dependable mineral program deserves a place in your offseason plans. Rack RX 365 is proving that sometimes the smallest improvements made months before the opener can make the biggest difference when the moment of truth finally arrives.
