The 2026 DSC Convention & Sporting Expo, held February 6–8 at the Georgia World Congress Center, concluded as a resounding success for attendees, exhibitors, and global conservation initiatives.

Visitors and partners representing 43 countries and all 50 U.S. states gathered for three days of connection, commerce, and conservation. The Convention once again relied on the dedication of the DSC 100 volunteer team, whose commitment and enthusiasm remain the foundation of the event’s continued growth.

From the moment the exhibit hall opened Friday morning, attendees utilized DSC’s Express Badge Pick-Up to quickly enter the show floor, where nearly 700 Exhibitor Partners presented premier North American and international hunting and fishing adventures, firearms, outdoor equipment, fine art, jewelry, taxidermy, furnishings, and more.

Evenings continued the momentum with lively banquets and competitive live auctions. The festivities began Thursday with the Conservation Kickoff Banquet & Auction, where keynote speaker Shane Mahoney delivered a powerful message emphasizing conservation stewardship and the importance of our hunting heritage.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources played a prominent role throughout the Convention. Commissioner Walter Rabon stated:

“The successful return of the Dallas Safari Club Convention and Sporting Expo to Atlanta was a proud moment for Georgia and a great reminder of how much conservation partnerships can accomplish. It was an even greater honor to receive the Dallas Safari Club Conservation Trailblazer Award. I am very grateful to the Dallas Safari Club Foundation for this recognition and proud to accept it on behalf of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.”

Following the strong partnership between the venue and event, Kevin Duvall, CEO of the Georgia World Congress Center Authority, added:

“Welcoming Dallas Safari Club back to GWCC for a second year was a tremendous success and a true testament to the strength of our partnership. Their continued confidence in our campus highlights our ability to provide the space, flexibility, and resources needed to support the event’s ongoing growth. Atlanta’s signature Southern hospitality helped create an exceptional experience for exhibitors and attendees alike. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together and look forward to building on this momentum and celebrating continued success in the years ahead.”

Friday and Saturday evening banquets continued the celebration, while the Ladies’ Luncheon and Life Member Appreciation Breakfast brought together supporters of DSC’s mission of Conservation, Education, and Advocacy.

Throughout the weekend, attendees heard from influential voices across the outdoor and conservation communities, including Robbie Kroger, Ivan Carter, Kate MacGregor, Kelly Armstrong, and newly installed DSC CEO Russell Stacy.

Stacy remarked, “What an incredible week! DSC is about family, friendships, and our rich hunting heritage, and that spirit was on full display throughout this year’s Convention. Building off this momentum, we look forward to returning to Atlanta next January and bringing the Convention back to Texas beginning in 2028.”

With the Convention concluded, DSC now turns its attention to the 2nd Annual DSC Summer Expo & Foundation Gala, scheduled for July 23–25 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, just minutes from DFW Airport! Registration and hotel bookings for the 2026 DSC Summer Expo are now open.

The annual DSC Convention & Sporting Expo will return to Atlanta January 7–10, 2027. Registration and hotel bookings for the 2027 DSC Convention are also now open!

On behalf of everyone at DSC, the organization extends sincere appreciation to its Exhibitor Partners, Sponsors, Conservation Partners, Attendees, Members, and DSC 100 Volunteers for making the 2026 Convention one of the most successful in its history. DSC looks forward to welcoming supporters this summer in Dallas and again in Atlanta in January 2027.

Choosing the right archery target is one of the smartest moves any shooter can make. The right target improves accuracy, builds confidence, and protects your arrows and equipment for longer. BIGshot Archery designs targets for every type of shooter, from backyard beginners to professional competitors, and this guide will help you find the one that fits your bow, your style, and your budget.

1. Identify Your Target Type

The first step is deciding which style of target best suits your practice needs.

Bag Targets are perfect for high-volume practice with field points. They’re easy to shoot into and even easier to pull arrows out of, and they stand up well to repetitive shooting sessions.

Broadhead Targets are engineered to handle sharp, cutting broadhead tips. These are essential for hunters who want to practice with the same arrows and broadheads they’ll use in the field. Regular targets tend to wear quickly when hit with broadheads, but broadhead-specific targets hold up much better.

3D Targets offer a more realistic shooting experience. Life-like animal shapes such as Dall Sheep or Mountain Goat help archers practice aim on vital zones and get mentally prepared for real hunting scenarios.

Crossbow Targets are made with high-density construction that can stop bolts traveling at speeds over 500 feet per second. Models like the Iron Man series are built to prevent pass throughs and protect your bolts from damage.

2. Consider Your Bow’s Speed and Power

Not all targets can handle the speed and energy of modern archery equipment.

For standard vertical bows and most compound bows with moderate draw weights, backyard and youth targets offer reliable stopping power and durability.

If you use a high-performance crossbow, you need a target specifically designed to handle greater kinetic energy. Specialized targets like the Kinetic 650 are built to prevent pass throughs and keep your bolts intact.

3. Specialty Practice and Training

For shooters who want more than a basic block, there are advanced training options.

QuivAR Enabled Targets combine a physical target with augmented reality for interactive sessions that make practice more engaging.

Archery Simulators provide a video-based shooting experience that’s great for commercial ranges or dedicated home setups.

If you enjoy other throwing sports as well, Heavy Duty Axe and Knife Targets are built to withstand the impact of steel blades.

4. Pro Tip: Save with Blemished Targets

If you want professional-grade performance on a tighter budget, check out blemished models. These targets have minor cosmetic imperfections but deliver the same stopping power as full-price versions.

5. TargetTack®

TargetTack® provides a professional-grade way to secure paper targets to a wide range of backstops—from traditional hay bales and dense foam to pre-drilled wood surfaces. It makes mounting and swapping targets quick and keeps your shooting surface flat and stable through long practice sessions.

No matter your goals—fun practice, serious training, or hunting season prep—this guide helps you choose the right target for the job.

Delta McKenzie has been a familiar name in archery targets for decades, offering a broad range of products designed to support practice, tuning and preparation for both bowhunters and target archers. The brand’s focus has consistently been on durability, practical design and materials that balance stopping power with manageable arrow removal, making its targets suitable for repeated use in a variety of shooting environments.

A key component of Delta McKenzie’s product development has been its work with foam-based target materials. The company utilizes advanced foam blends engineered to withstand repeated impacts while limiting slivering and excessive wear. One example is Mo’Foam, a self-healing foam material developed to provide consistent arrow stopping performance across a wide range of draw weights and arrow speeds. This material is used in several of the brand’s target styles, from backyard practice options to more technical range-focused designs.

Delta McKenzie’s target lineup covers multiple categories to accommodate different shooting needs. Bag and block targets are designed for portability and versatility, often featuring multiple aiming points and compatibility with field points and, in some models, broadheads. Layered and multi-sided block targets allow shooters to rotate impact areas, helping extend the usable life of the target during high-volume practice sessions.

The company is also widely recognized for its 3D archery targets, which are commonly used by bowhunters and archery clubs. These lifelike targets are molded to represent a variety of game species and include anatomically accurate vital areas to support realistic shot placement practice. Many of Delta McKenzie’s 3D targets incorporate replaceable core systems, allowing high-impact zones to be swapped out once worn, rather than replacing the entire target.

For archers using modern high-speed compounds and crossbows, Delta McKenzie offers technical and high-velocity-rated targets designed to handle increased kinetic energy. These targets are built with dense foam cores and construction methods intended to maintain structural integrity while still allowing for reasonable arrow removal, even after repeated impacts.

Delta McKenzie has also continued to refine its construction methods over time, including the use of strap-free welded core designs that reduce common wear points found in traditional layered targets. In addition, the brand has explored integration with emerging training tools and technology-assisted practice systems, reflecting ongoing adaptation to how archers train and evaluate performance.

Across backyard ranges, pro shops and organized shooting venues, Delta McKenzie targets are used as practical training tools that emphasize repeatability, longevity and realistic practice. With a wide product selection and continued material development, the brand remains a consistent option for archers preparing equipment, refining accuracy or practicing shot placement throughout the year.

RAPID CITY, SD (October 22, 2025) –The National Bowhunter Education Foundation (NBEF) supports the educational efforts of the Wildlife Sports & Educational Museum in Amsterdam, NY. NBEF is particularly proud of the permanent exhibit featuring the history of bowhunter education and its founder Bill Wadsworth. Wadsworth, often referred to as the “Father of Bowhunting,” founded the National Bowhunter Education Foundation in 1979 and was a major influence in bowhunter education from the 1960’s into the 1990’s.

NBEF Board President and long-term local supporter of the Museum, Stephen George was largely responsible for working together with Bob Kasmerski, the founder and owner of the WSEM to secure the display case and obtain the historic materials exhibited. The exhibit showcases the start and growth of the organization. Wadsworth and a small team of bowhunters met in upstate New York to draft a book about bowhunting. They were motivated by what they had seen while participating in the previous whitetail bowhunting season. They wanted to help bowhunters obtain important bowhunting facts before embarking on a hunt rather than learning in the field, via trial and error. The first book was printed in 1969. Bowhunter education courses were the next step. Conservation information, bowhunting methods and safety, shot placement, lures, calls, scents and bowhunter ethics and responsibilities were covered in print and in classes.

“NBEF and the Wildlife Sports & Educational Museum’s educational and preservation missions align,” explained NBEF Executive Director Marilyn Bentz. “We’re proud of our roots and are glad the NBEF story, particularly in New York state, will be shared for generations to come.”

Fred Bear, born in 1902 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, is widely regarded as a pioneer in bowhunting and modern archery. From humble beginnings, Bear transformed a personal passion into a legacy that continues to shape the archery industry today.

After leaving home at 21, Bear initially worked in Detroit’s automotive industry, but his fascination with archery led him to pursue hunting with a bow. In 1929, he embarked on his first hunting adventures with primitive equipment. Despite early misses, including a notable instance when he failed to hit a snowshoe hare with all six of his arrows, Bear’s dedication never faltered. By 1935, he had successfully taken his first deer with a bow, cementing his commitment to the sport.

In 1933, Bear co-founded the Bear Products Company in Detroit alongside Charles Piper. Initially, the company produced silk-screened goods and advertising materials for the automotive sector. Recognizing a growing interest in archery, Bear began crafting bows with skilled woodworker Nels Grumley by 1938. By 1940, the business had fully transitioned to archery and became known as Bear Archery.

Fred Bear was not just a manufacturer but also a strong advocate for bowhunting. He lobbied for the creation of archery hunting seasons, successfully influencing Michigan to open its first dedicated archery season in 1937. His innovations included the development of the composite bow and other technical advancements that helped modernize the sport. Bear also brought archery to a wider audience through films, television appearances, and magazine articles, showcasing the sport’s potential and inspiring generations of hunters.

Throughout the mid-20th century, Bear Archery grew steadily under his leadership. In 1968, Bear sold controlling interest in the company but continued serving as chairman, ensuring that his vision remained influential. The company later relocated to Gainesville, Florida, and went through several ownership changes, reflecting its adaptation to a growing and evolving archery market.

Bear Archery Today

Today, Bear Archery continues to honor Fred Bear’s vision while embracing modern innovation. The company produces a full range of bows, from high-performance compound bows to traditional recurve and longbows, combining advanced technology with classic craftsmanship. Their products now feature modern materials, precision engineering, and customizable options designed to meet the needs of both new archers and seasoned hunters.

In addition to manufacturing, Bear Archery maintains a strong presence in the archery community through sponsorships, events, and educational initiatives. The company emphasizes quality, reliability, and performance, reflecting the standards Fred Bear established nearly a century ago. By blending tradition with innovation, Bear Archery ensures that Fred Bear’s legacy continues to influence the sport he helped pioneer.

Through decades of growth, Fred Bear’s name remains synonymous with archery excellence, and Bear Archery continues to be a leading force in the industry, offering equipment that respects the past while preparing hunters for the future.

Delta McKenzie Targets, LLC (www.dmtargets.com), a leading manufacturer of archery targets and the title sponsor of the ASA Pro/Am tour, is pleased to announce the reintroduction of all foam legs on all pro-style targets and the return to the traditional McKenzie quality all foam body parts! This upgrade has been a goal of Owner Al Perelli from day one when he bought Delta Mckenzie last November 2024.

“We spent significant time at ASA shoots listening to the shooters and ASA Staff. They confirmed our belief in the need to re-introduce the classic quality McKenze all foam design for our Pro-Line featured at ASA.” States Brandon Perelli, Vice President of Sales for Delta McKenzie. “To that end our design group spent hundreds of hours in 2024 rebuilding the masters to replace the plastic legs with all foam legs.”

All foam legs will be on the 2025 ASA PRO/AM lineup as well as the addition of the two new targets. To protect your club’s current investment, replacement plastic legs for targets already owned by your club will be available to purchase for the foreseeable future.

Archery lost one of its true legends in the sudden passing of five-time Olympic archer and Atlanta 1996 team gold medalist Richard Andrew “Butch” Johnson. Johnson was 68 years old.

Johnson was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1955. During his archery career Johnson competed in five consecutive Summer Olympic Games, beginning in Barcelona in 1992 until Beijing in 2008. During his archery career Johnson won Team Gold in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and Bronze in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, in addition to Team Gold in the 1999 Winnipeg, Team Gold in the 2007 Rio de Janeiro, Individual 70-meter Silver in the Mar Del Plata and Individual Bronze in the 1995 Mar del Plata Pan American Games, and a 1999 Team Recurve Bronze in the 1999 World Championships.

His best individual finish was 11th place in 1996, when he also combined with Justin Huish and Rod White to deliver the USA’s only recurve men’s Olympic team gold medal to date. A converted compound archer, Johnson was known for his unorthodox and analytical approach to his equipment, and for anchoring the U.S. international team for more than two decades.

Tom Dielen, World Archery Secretary General, said “Butch was an icon in the sport, matching a unique technique approach with elite success and unrivalled longevity as the USA Archery’s most-capped Olympian.

“His impact went beyond the shooting line to the many archers he coached and mentored. My condolences go to his wife, Teresa, his family and the archery community in the USA.”

Johnson remained one of the world’s best recurve shooters long after his Olympic appearances, ranking in the top five in the United States and placing 6th in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Amid speculation he would retire following the Trials, Johnson came back to finish 2nd in the 2012 National Target Championships and won a silver medal in the 2012 Hoyt World Open, second only to No.1 world ranked archer Brady Ellison.
