Originally planned for a later date, overwhelming consumer demand has accelerated the release of another Bear Legends Series bow. The Kuma LD is included in Bear’s Legend Series, an exclusive dealer-only line of five ultra-competitive compound bows, and will be offered at a retail price of $899.99.

A big brother to the 2018 Kuma, the LD features a longer draw length range of 27” to 32” for archers with draw lengths exceeding those previously available with the Kuma. The Kuma LD will be available in two versions – 45-60 lbs. and 55-70 lbs. peak draw weight. In addition to the Kuma LD, the Kuma, previously available in only the 55-70 lbs., will now be available in a 45-60 lbs. version.

“Our original plan was to launch line extensions on the Kuma model at a future date,” says Dave Parker, Archery General Manager, “but based on the amount of feedback we heard, we decided to change our plans, move these launches forward and give the Bear consumers what they were asking for from us.”

The Kuma LD offers the best of both worlds bringing together speed and shootability. The EAZ hybrid cam system launches arrows at 330 feet per second, features a smooth draw, and a high-level of forgiveness with an 80% let off. The Kuma LD will be available Nov. 1.

Featuring the Bear Cage machining technique, the rigid 1″ thick forged riser has been strategically “hollowed out” to lighten the load – yet still prevents side-to-side flex for improved accuracy. The bow has a Roller HingeGuard System to reduce lateral torque and friction. The Max Preload Quad Limbs were designed to evenly distribute load across the entire limb system for maximum strength at key stress points during and after release. The Kuma LD also offers the newly-designed, sleeker, low-profile SonicStops string recoil suppressors and the ShockWaves limb dampening system to reduce vibration and noise.

This is the highest honor the Pope and Young Club can bestow upon a bowhunter.

In 1962, the Pope and Young Club introduced the idea for a special bowhunting award, named in honor of Ishi since he had instilled in Saxton Pope and Art Young the love of the bow and its use as an efficient hunting tool. This honor is awarded only when a truly outstanding North American big game trophy animal is deserving of recognition.

“The Ishi Award is one of bowhunting’s highest honors, said Ed Fanchin, Records Chairman for the Pope And Young Club. “The Pope and Young Club only presents this award out when a truly outstanding North American big game trophy animal is deserving of recognition. This year the Pope And Young Club awarded the honor to the Typical American elk taken by Stephen Felix. The massive bulls score, the Fair Chase hunt on public land and the story behind how Stephen Felix harvested this exceptional animal all make this incredible trophy truly deserving of the Ishi Award.

Fred Bear designed the award with assistance from Chuck Kroll. The Ishi award plaque was originally made from very fine, select grade rosewood nearly perfect in color, grain and texture donated to the Club by Fred himself. When that supply was depleted, the Club selected pieces of fine Yew and Osage Orange wood from Glenn St. Charles’s personal wood box to form the plaque. The final touch is the specially made obsidian spear point, fashioned by past Pope and Young Club President, Roger Atwood. The hand chipped point is mounted on the Yew and Osage plaque and trimmed with genuine goatskin, along with an engraved metal plate to complete the treasured Ishi Award.

Steve’s newly crowned World Record American Elk is truly an outstanding animal with a score of 430 0/8; this monarch is over 17″ above the previous World Record taken in 2005 and very deserving of bowhunting’s most rare and distinctive award.

The Pope and Young Club is a non-profit North American conservation and bowhunting organization dedicated to the promotion and protection of our bowhunting heritage, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. The Club also maintains the universally recognized repository for the records and statistics on North American big game animals harvested with a bow and arrow.

Hall’s Arrow is a great example of how archery can create an enduring legacy. Like industry pioneers Fred Bear and Jim Easton, Art Hall formed a passion for the bow and arrow during the first half of the 20th century. By the early 1950s, he was perfecting his home-made arrows, winning tournaments, and sharing his shooting secrets with friends and interested fellow archers.

What started as hobby in a basement became a small and demanding business in 1959. Hall continued to make his own arrows and pass his knowledge along to those interested. New England’s weather cycle made year-round outdoor practice impossible, and so in 1964 Hall expanded his business yet again to make the first indoor archery range in New England.

Richard Johnson III said Hall’s Arrow uses social media more than ever, but still finds that paper fliers and newsletters are effective for generating business.

Another awesome feature that Hall brought to his shop is the innovative automatic target return system. In an effort to avoid the “hold ups” that come with a standard archery range when shooters collect their arrows, Hall developed an overhead track system that brings the arrows back to the archer. You can see it in action in the background of this quick video:

Hall’s legacy of providing new and seasoned archers alike with the latest gear, knowledge and a place to shoot lives on to this day. Check out their website http://www.hallsarrow.com to learn more, and consider stopping by next time you find yourself in Connecticut.
