Here’s a quick look at some of the innovative 2017 products that have already made their debut.

Mathews Halon 32

The new Halon 32 is a longer axle-to-axle version of last year’s Halon. That added length provides an enhanced string angle and superior stability, while still delivering speeds up to 350 fps. Like its predecessor, the Halon 32 is powered by the highly efficient CROSSCENTRIC cam, which employs a partially concentric string payout and AVS technology to produce a stealthy draw and consistent accuracy. Its true-center nocking point ensures straight and level nock travel, enhancing shot-to-shot consistency. The Halon 32 is rock solid and deadly quiet, thanks to the FlatBack Grip, Harmonic Damper and Harmonic Stabilizer. It’s available with a 5, 6 or 7-inch brace height, and weighs 4.83 pounds. Mathews has also unveiled their entire 2017 hunting and target lines, so check out the whole collection at mathewsinc.com.

Bear Moment

The Moment is Bear Archery’s 2017 flagship bow. It has the newest version of the EAZ Cam System with DRAWDIAL Rotating Modules. These modules allow fast and simple draw-length adjustments without a bow press, and a single EAZ Cam-equipped Moment accommodates draw lengths of 25 to 30 inches. The Moment’s riser is slightly shorter than last year’s BR 33, which allows the bow to fire arrows about 10 fps faster. Although it’s advertised at 340 fps, the Moment reached 360 fps with the lightest arrow during Inside Archery’s recent Bow Report. The smaller size also makes the Moment a lighter and more maneuverable bow. The redesigned riser has a new NAROGRIP, which provides greater shooting comfort and better bow-hand placement. The Moment also comes equipped with all of Bear’s latest silencing technology, making this an all-around amazing bow for any serious bowhunter. Learn more and see the rest of Bear’s 2017 lineup at beararchery.com.

Hoyt Pro Defiant

Hoyt took the best features of its Defiant series and combined them with their latest technology to create the Pro Defiant. One familiar aspect of the Pro Defiant is the incredible DFX Cam and ½ System, and Ultra-Flex Limbs. At full draw, DFX Cams add 3.45 inches to overall bow length, making the 30.5-inch Pro Defiant feel like a more forgiving 34-inch bow. The Pro Defiant also features Offset Riser Technology, which kills vibration and adds strength/stiffness; Dual Cable Stops for a solid back-wall; rotating cam modules that allow for easy adjustments; and the Zero Torque Cable Guard system, which eliminates torque for dead-on alignment. Hoyt also included a handful of cutting-edge silencing features like the StealthShot string stop, AlphaShox five-fin silencers, and Silent Shelf Technology that prevents arrow clicks on the riser shelf. Learn more about this incredible technology and see Hoyt’s other new bows at hoyt.com.

Excalibur Micro Suppressor

The Micro Suppressor is Excalibur’s 2017 flagship crossbow, and the most compact model in the Micro series. It features a new Sound Deadening System and Excalibur’s Recoil Anti-Vibration System, which reduce vibration and noise when it’s fired. This quiet, compact crossbow also packs a punch, firing arrows at speeds up to 355 fps. The Micro Suppressor comes equipped with the new X-Hanger quiver, which features a quick-detach lightweight carbon design for versatility and optimal maneuverability. The X-Hanger attaches to a three sided tactical Picatinny rail, allowing for additional accessory attachments. Learn more at excaliburcrossbow.com.

Wac’Em Steel Expandables

Wac’Em updates its broadhead lineup with American-forged steel expandables. These steel expandables deliver extra strength and durability, and live up to Wac’Em’s reputation for field-point accuracy and pass-through penetration. Using the same cut-on-impact tip design as Wac’Em’s fixed-blade, the expandable’s tip splits the hide on impact, but its blades do not deploy until half of the broad head’s body has penetrated the hide. Wac’Em Steel Expandables are available in two- and three-blade versions. Both weigh 100 grains and have a 1.5-inch cutting diameter. Learn more at wacemarchery.com.

Carbon Express Pro Recurve RZ

Carbon Express’ new target arrow incorporates the company’s exclusive Red Zone Technology into a recurve arrow for greater recurve accuracy. It features a stiffer middle section and less stiff ends to provide the flex needed to achieve ideal fletching clearance around the cushion plunger and arrow rest, resulting in greater accuracy for the recurve shooter. In addition to the exclusive design, the arrow features BuffTuff construction for extreme durability, giving it the added strength and durability. Every Maxima Pro Recurve RZ arrow is laser checked for straightness to a remarkable 1/10,000 of an inch. Maxima Pro Recurve RZ straightness of +/- 0.0025 is a maximum measurement, not an average. Learn more at carbonexpressarrows.com.

TRUGLO Range•Rover Pro

TRUGLO’s new control system for its single-pin Range•Rover Pro uses an LED pin that adjusts over a wide range of brightness levels. That feature lets archers pick their preferred setting in full daylight or complete darkness. This model features a digital push-button control system for faster, easier adjustments. The Range•Rover Pro still includes all of its original features, such as the Zero-In adjustment dial for smooth elevation and range adjustments, micro-adjustable windage controls, and over 80 multi-colored sight tapes for precise calibration.
Gearhead T30

*image currently unavailable

Along with a slew of other new products that are set to be showcased at the 2017 ATA Show, Gearhead recently unveiled the T30. Although the company is known for compact bows with short axle-to-axle measurements, it’s adding a 30-inch axle-to-axle bow to the lineup. The T30’s brace height measures 6.5-inches, it weighs 3.4 pound in its carbon-fiber version, accommodates draw lengths up to 31 inches, and flings arrows at 335 fps.
Custom Bow Equipment SL4

Watch as Patrick Meitin describes the new Hoyt Pro Defiant in a comprehensive compound bow review. Some familiar features of this bow remain, such as the DFX Cam and ½ system and UltraFlex Limbs. Other features include multilayer lamination construction and Parallel Split Limb technologies. DFX Cams allow this compound to adjust 2 inches of draw length within a single cam set, add 3.45 inches to the overall bow length at full draw, and allow the peep to sit closer to the eye for better head positioning and more accurate aiming. The DFX-Ultra-Flex combination has gained a solid reputation with serious shooters for maximizing effective string angle, optimizing peep positioning, and providing more comfortable and consistent anchoring- and shooting-form dynamics.

Hoyt Pro Defiant has PerfectBalance Stabilization System and Offset Riser Technology that ensure it is one of the quietest, most well-balanced bows on the market. Short bows tend to be top- or front-heavy, but Hoyt has perfected the art of balancing a bow. Even with added accessories, it is very difficult to throw the bow off balance. This compound allows for a cleaner shot without having to worry about the shooters torque or hold it steady. Along with superior balance, the silence of this compound is profound and consistent, even without all of the extraneous silencer equipment. Uniform Stress Distribution Limbs, DFX Cam system, the StealthShot string stop, and the Zero Torque Cable Guard System allow the Hoyt Pro Defiant to eliminate any possible noise or vibration, thus creating a stealthy shot. Hoyt also included the Limb Shox five-fin silencer and Shock Rod Technology in the In-Line Roller Cable Guard for improved noise control. Finally, Hoyt’s ingenious introduction of Silent Shelf Technology prevents errant and all-too-common arrow clicks on the riser shelf.

On the range, 60 arrows were shot without one foot-per-second in speed variation within a single-arrow set. This translates into an accurate shot with a professional compound bow. Hoyt’s Pro Defiant compound bow is deadly silent, plenty fast for speed freaks, and as accurate as your abilities allow. As Hoyt puts it, “The Pro Defiant is purpose-built for the most serious, demanding bowhunters on the planet.”

“This is carbon done right.”

Mastered only by Hoyt, carbon’s strength, weight and thermal characteristics make it the ideal material for premier bow construction. From vibration reduction and cold-weather comfort, to lethal accuracy and rugged durability, the advantages of carbon are definite. This is next-level bowhunting design that flies in the face of industry norms.

Introducing the all-new Double XL. This 36 3/4” axle-to-axle powerhouse is modeled after the Pro Defiant, and features a 31- 33” draw length range with a full 8 inches of brace height. This rig delivers a serious punch and ultimate stability for the biggest bowhunters out there.

EFFECTIVE STRING ANGLE AT FULL DRAW

“Reaching” your head forward to your peep is more than just uncomfortable, it’s inconsistent. Hoyt engineered the UltraFlex Limb and DFX Cam Systems to promote comfortable, strain-free posture at full draw by increasing the distance between the cams at full draw. This broader cam-to-cam distance at full draw creates an ideal “flatter” string angle and brings the peep to you. These innovations allow a more relaxed, strain-free posture at full draw, and reduce facial contact, string pressure, and eye fatigue at anchor. The days of “reaching” are over; your days of tight, consistent groups have arrived.

The result is a 2017 30.5-inch bow that feels and performs like previous 34-inch equivalents, meaning that the compact version will feel and perform like a stable and forgiving 34-inch bow. Similarly, a 34-inch bow will perform like a 37-inch dream bow, and a 36.75-inch bow feels and performs like a stable and forgiving 40-inch bow . If the numbers don’t convince you, your experience at full-draw and your tightened arrow groups will.
