Mathews’ Avail is a compact, lightweight bow engineered for female archers and bowhunters. The Avail tested here was set for a 25-inch draw length and slightly more than a 50-pound draw weight. This draw weight / length is efficient for tagging animals such as black bears, whitetail deer, springtime gobblers, and more. These bow specs generate respectable kinetic energy, touching 50 foot-pounds across the board.

The heart of the Avail is Mathews’ CrossCentric Cam system with Advanced Vectoring System (AVS) technology. This cam was inspired by Mathews’ No Cam technology, which maintains the smooth nature of that Gen-1 technology while increasing speeds to boost KE transfer without sacrificing the bow’s smooth character. During the draw cycles, limb tips move little between rest and anchor positions which transfers energy more efficiently for quieter shots.

When pulling into anchor, partially concentric string payout produces a smooth, bump-free draw cycle. The AVS technology vectors the draw forces to maintain perfect synchronization while working with a True Center Nocking Point for straight and level nock-point travel. The Cams on the Avail increase leverage during the draw cycle, making any draw weight seem lighter than what the scale reads. Also, CrossCentric Cams kick out at full draw to open the bowstring angle and help this 30-inch bow feel 2 to 3 inches longer, increasing forgiveness and better peep placement. Meanwhile, the CrossCentric dual string-stop system creates a solid rear wall and consistent arrow speeds.

The Avail includes a Dual Bridge Riser that provides an extra-stiff, stable shooting platform while minimizing mass. This bow’s riser has a bit of reflex, setting the Flatback Grip slightly behind the limbs’ pivot points, but the bow remains stable and well-balanced because of its long-riser and short-limb configuration. The Avail’s pivoting one-piece-milled limb pockets are set on a wide base to shift balance rearward while anchoring the bow’s slim-profile split limbs. In addition, integrated mounting slots milled into the riser accommodate Mathews’ quivers and the lower riser holds two steel stabilizer mounts.

The Avail features an array of silencing technologies including an integral Harmonic Damper above and Harmonic Stabilizer Lite below, which are set in rubber webs beneath each limb pocket. Mathews’ Avail also includes a carbon-rod-mounted rubber-bumper string stop, and proven Reverse Roller Guard system mounted on a carbon rod. On release, the Avail creates merely a dull thump.

The Avail’s compact 30-inch axle-to-axle specs make it ideal for treestand vigils or a cramped popup blind. Its sub-4-pound mass also makes it a great companion when logging long miles in rough-and-tumble terrain. With little tuning and sighting, this bow easily shot fist-sized groups at 20 and 30 yards.

Mathews recently released “DRIVE”, a short video celebrating women bowhunters, who despite obstacles and naysayers dedicate themselves to this beloved, yet demanding, sport.

The video features four women from around the country: a blacktail hunter and archery coach from northern California, a western big game hunter from Bozeman, Montana; a whitetail hunter and cattle rancher from Missouri; and arguably the most prolific and most-accomplished woman in bowhunting, Tiffany Lakosky. These women depict the dedication and work involved in bowhunting, and how training and preparation silences the doubt and propels them into their hunt with confidence.

“In an industry so full of stereotypes and criticism, we felt women needed a message that was relatable, but also inspiring,” says Mathews Content Manager, Derek Nelson. “DRIVE was created to empower women in this sport to push through the doubt and fear and give it all they’ve got.”

Amanda Caldwell, a Real Estate Agent and bowhunter from Bozeman, Montana, is featured in the video depicting the physical training required in western big game hunting and echoes the appeal of challenge. “There are a lot of highly motivated women out there rock-climbing and training for triathlons, because they love the outdoors and seek sports that physically challenge them,” says Caldwell. “I think this video helps outsiders see how empowering bowhunting can be, while also celebrating the dedicated women that are already out there crushing it.”

All four women in the piece are shooting Mathews’ new women’s bow, the 2017 AVAIL, which like the video, is designed specifically to empower female bowhunters.

Brian Scott took 1st place, receiving $2,000, while Steve Williamson took 2nd, receiving $1,000.

“We decided to offer a crossbow contingency in an effort to grow the crossbow community,” said Tanya Thurow, Mission Crossbow Category Manager. “I think it speaks volumes to how committed we are to growing the sport.”

ASA and IBO tournaments test shooter’s skills on 3D targets. These highly competitive tournament circuits tour around the country and feature some of the best shooters in the world.

“Accuracy and reliability is a must when competing at this level,” says Brian Scott who won the Crossbow Class shooting his Sniper Lite. “The Mission Sniper Lite performed flawlessly for me.”

Steve Williamson, who took 2nd in the tournament, has been shooting competitively for over 25 years. After battling neck cancer in 2012, Williamson was no longer able to compete with a compound bow. The crossbow class allows him to stay competitive at the highest level.

“I don’t think a lot of people realize you can shoot a crossbow competitively,” said Williamson. “I really appreciate what Mission is doing by promoting this sport with contingency prizes.”

MATHEWS® INTRODUCES 2017 HUNTING LINE

Sparta, Wisconsin – After an extremely successful year with the 2016 HALON®, Mathews introduces its 2017 hunting line with three new offerings featuring the highly efficient and powerful CROSSCENTRIC cam: HALON® 32, AVAIL and STOKE.

“This year is all about expansion of our CROSSCENTRIC cam technology,” said Matt McPherson, Owner and CEO of Mathews Archery. “We want to make this extremely accurate, high-speed system available to all archers seeking a premium shooting experience.”

The new HALON 32 is a longer version of the award-winning HALON, providing an enhanced string angle and superior stability, while still delivering speeds up to 350 fps. Like its predecessor, the HALON 32 is powered by the highly efficient CROSSCENTRIC cam, which employs a partially concentric string payout and AVS® technology to produce a stealthy draw and consistent accuracy. Its true-center nocking point ensures straight and level nock travel, enhancing shot-to-shot consistency. Outfitted with the FlatBack Grip and industry-leading Harmonic Damper® and Harmonic Stabilizer®, the HALON 32 is rock solid and deadly quiet.

At less than 4 pounds with a 30 inch axle-to-axle and a 6 inch brace height, the AVAIL is compact and provides women truly unmatched performance. Featuring draw lengths that range 22 to 28 inches and draw weight up to 60 pounds, the AVAIL delivers speeds up to 320 feet per second (IBO speed at 30″ draw would be 340 fps). Its CROSSCENTRIC cam and AVS technology produce a smooth draw and consistent accuracy while delivering massive downrange energy.

The 2017 STOKE is the most advanced youth bow ever created. Like the HALON 32 and AVAIL, the STOKE utilizes CROSSCENTRIC cam and AVS technology to provide unmatched accuracy and kinetic energy down range. At just over 27 inches axle-to-axle and speeds up to 314 feet per second (IBO speed at 30″ draw would be 344 fps), this compact and lightweight bow offers young archers high performance and top-of-the-line craftsmanship.

“With the high efficiency of the CROSSCENTRIC cam technology, the opportunity to create the highest performing youth bow was right in front of us, and we had to do it,” said McPherson. “This is the finest youth bow archery has ever seen.”

For 2017, Mathews is also offering new finishes, including GORE Optifade Elevated II and Open Country, as well Under Armour Ridge Reaper Barren.

Go to Mathewsinc.com for full specifications, finish options, and more information on the 2017 hunting line, and experience them at your local Mathews Retailer.

Sparta, Wisconsin – For over two decades, Mathews target bows have been a fixture at the podium of archery competitions. For 2017, we are excited to introduce two of the most accurate target platforms we’ve ever created – The Halonâ X Comp and TRX. “Whether you’re pounding X’s on a Vegas face, or competing on the 3D course, this target lineup provides the perfect option for any archer,”stated Mathews Pro Staff Manager, Derek Phillips. “This is hands down the most complete line of target bows we’ve ever offered and I fully expect to see Team Mathews topping podiums this year.” The 2017 HALON X Comp is our most versatile target bow to date with a 37-inch axle to axle design and draw lengths ranging 26 inches to 32 inches. It features a new generation of the perimeter-weighted Mini-Crosscentric Cam and our highly efficient AVS® technology to produce speeds up to 330 feet per second. A true-center nocking point ensures straight and level nock travel, further enhancing shot-to-shot consistency and a 7-inch brace height provides unmatched forgiveness.

“Mathews listened to their target shooters. We wanted a longer HALON X, and they delivered,” says IBO National Champion, Chris Hacker. “The HALON X Comp is the toughest, most accurate and most forgiving bow yet.” The all new TRX is built with the indoor shooters in mind. At 40 inches axle to axle and brace height variations of 7 and 8 inches, it offers superior stability and forgiveness on the line. The newly designed Mini-Crosscentric Cam, paired with our highly efficient AVS technology, yields speeds up to 332 feet per second. Featuring a true center nocking point to ensure straight and level nock travel, the TRX provides consistent accuracy shot after shot, while our industry leading damping technology reduces post-shot vibration. Go to Mathewsinc.com for full specifications, finish options, and more information on the 2017 target bows, and experience them at your local Mathews Retailer.

Although Gellenthien has already won other archery events, this one was more important for the shooter on a personal level, according to his remarks after the match. This is also a defining moment for Mathews’ newest bow line as archers begin to judge the Halon’s performance in tournaments and the field – and it has certainly been received well.
