The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women’s Archery teams returned to the shooting lines this past weekend at Kentucky Christian University in Grayson, Kentucky where they competed in the 2016 Outdoor South Regionals. Both of UC’s teams did exceptionally well as the Patriots dominated the majority of the tournament, coming away with numerous top finishes.

BY THE NUMBERS

Women’s Recurve Bow

· Alice Buswell (Westborough, MA) finished 1st out of 8 archers with a score of 577.

· Lakin Crum (Ashland, KY) finished 2nd with 341 points.

· Hannah Blevins (Eubank, KY) followed in 3rd with 284 points.

· The team of Buswell, Crum, and Blevins finished 1st over Midway 6 sets to 0, with a combined score of 1202

Men’s Compound Bow

· Cole Likins (London, KY) finished in 1st out of 16 archers with 673 points

· John Whalen (Booneville, IN) finished in 5th with 666 points.

· Dylan Martin (Keavy, KY) and teammate Clint Moore (Falmouth, KY) both shot 650 for 7th and 8th place.

· The team of Likin, Whalen, and Martin placed 1st over Union with 1989 points combined.

Women’s Compound Bow

· Kayla Dowell (Payneville, KY) finished in 3rd place out of 14 competitors with a score of 636.

· Kristen Swords (Ecru, MS) finished 5th with 620 points.

· Madeline Brown (Booneville, IN) finished 6th with 613 points.

· The team of Dowell, Swords, and Brown took 1st over Midway and KCU, with a combined score of 1869.

Men’s Bowhunter

· Caleb Kirby (London, KY) finished 1st out of 20 bowhunters with 662 points.

· Jayson Byrd (Goodway, AL) finished 2nd with 646 points.

· Aaron Cook (Stanford, KY) Finished 3rd with 635 points.

· The team of Kirby, Byrd, and Cook finished 1st over Midway and Campbellsville with a combined score of 1943.

Women’s Bowhunter

· Haley Haygood (Liberty, MS) finished 2nd out of 16 competitors with 637 points.

· Courtnie Carr (Frankfort, KY) finished 3rd with 622 points.

· Mckenzie Gaines (London, KY) finished in 4th with 579 points.

· The team of Haygood, Carr, and Gaines took 1st over Midway with a score of 1838.

In Bowhunter Mixed teams, the team of Caleb Kirby and Haley Haygood placed first over Midway and Campbellsville with a combined 1299. In Compound Mixed Teams, Kayla Dowell and Cole Likins placed 2nd behind Union with a score of 1309.

Head UC Archery Coach Kris Strebeck commented, “We had a very successful weekend as a team. We had numerous archers in the Top 3 and all of our teams finished in the Top 2. We will take what we learned from this tournament and focus on preparation for Nationals next month.”

The Patriots will be back in action on May 19th – 22nd as they travel to Chula Vista, California to participate in the 2016 USCA Outdoor Nationals.
