Each component was scrutinized, resulting in over 24 patents/patents pending for the all-new SUB-1. Consistently delivering groups less than 1” at 100 yards, the SUB-1 also features an innovative trigger system that has the ability to safely de-cock with the push of a button. With its compact frame and uncompromising commitment to high quality materials, the SUB-1 promises an unmatched shooting experience.

Benchmark Fire Control

Three years in the making, this patented system is the first of its kind to allow shooters to safely de-cock their crossbow without disengaging the safety, pulling the trigger or shooting a bolt – no more bag targets, discharge heads, and broken bolts. At the core of the Benchmark Fire Control system is a two-stage, match grade trigger that utilizes a fully contained rolling sear set at a crisp 3.4 pounds. It’s Easy-Load bolt retention arm allows for effortless loading while applying optimal downward pressure on the bolt for a more secure hold, eliminating noise and vibration, while ensuring consistent accuracy.

Controlled Acceleration

Precision shooting is achieved not by one specific component, but by the sum of its parts. The SUB-1’s patented Sync X cam system utilizes two circular and concentric string tracks, allowing the string to travel at a constant distance from the center of rotation resulting in unparalleled accuracy. This fully synced cam system works in unison with the CNC machined flight tract completely eliminating horizontal and vertical nock travel. The 80% let off Sync X cams deliver controlled acceleration resulting in uniform arrow launch while providing effortless cocking and de-cocking.

Fit & Feel

The SUB-1’s rifle-inspired stock is fully-adjustable for a custom fit. Stock length can be set in 6 different positions (LOP 14.5” – 15.75”) and the comb height, with ambidextrous cheek piece, has a range of 1.25 inches. The ergonomic over molded AR style pistol grip is contoured for a positive feel and is fully interchangeable with aftermarket AR style grips (non-beavertail style grips).

Stealth

Silence was a crucial performance metric that drove our design. The SUB-1 is significantly quieter than competitors’ crossbows, and even more so when you compare our R.S.D System (Removable Silent Draw) to the loud boat-winch like cranks on other models. Mission Crossbows engineers designed this crossbow to be extremely compact and easy to maneuver in the field, ground blind or tree stand.

Chief Engineer and Founder, Matt McPherson applied what he learned from over 30 years of innovation in the vertical bow world to build the best crossbow possible. “I looked at conventional crossbow designs and was blown away at how cumbersome, loud, inaccurate, and cheap they felt and thought to myself, we can do this better.”

The Sub-1 is offered in Under Armour’s Ridge Reaper Forest or Black. Visit MissionCrossbows.com for full specifications, finish options and more information on the new Sub-1 crossbow, and experience it at your local Mission Crossbows Retailer.

Chunk’s cube design offers equal arrow penetration depth on all sides for a larger shoot-able area. Features include integrated handles and bright white aiming spots. Patented Mo’Foam is one of the densest foams on the market, and Delta’s exclusive heat process fuses it together into a single block. The welded-solid design eliminates the straps and bands that are needed to hold other brands’ layered targets together. Chunk is field-point and broadhead compatible, and rated for high-speed bows and most crossbows. It’s available in three sizes: 12, 15, and 18 inches. With this win, Morgan extends his streak to 11 consecutive ASA Shooter of the Year titles. He also won all three legs of the IBO Triple Crown this year, capturing the 2017 IBO Shooter of the Year title as well.

“The guy is unbelievably consistent – more consistent than any archer in the history of 3D archery,” stated Mathews Pro Staff Manager Derek Phillips. “Nobody, and I mean nobody, has even come close to his consistency and performance over the years.”

The ASA tournament tour consists of seven tournaments across the country. ASA Pro Division competitors shoot two rounds of twenty targets from unmarked distances. These targets vary in distance up to 50 yards and the five highest scores from the first two rounds qualify for the shoot down to decide the winner. The shooter with the most points after all seven events is dubbed Shooter of the Year.

“I can’t even begin to describe what this means to me,” stated Morgan. “I’m so thankful and honored to be a part of the Mathews family. My TRX pounded twelve rings through the entire season despite all of the abuse tournament season brings. It’s a testament to true quality!”

The additions give industry representatives from all areas more chances to work together to strengthen the industry. The decision – which was made at Hoyt headquarters during the Board’s summer meetings – gives the ATA Board a well-rounded composition. It now consists of three pro shops, two buying groups, one sales representative, two multi-channel retailers, and 12 archery and bowhunting manufacturers and distributors.

Gary Kinard, NABA president, and Deb Colgrove, ARRO’s executive secretary, will represent their organizations on the Board. NABA and ARRO harness the buying power of individual retailers into cooperative membership groups to receive manufacturers’ best wholesale prices. Buying groups also work on concerns specific to managing independent retail businesses.

Jay McAninch, the ATA’s president/CEO, said adding the buying groups to the Board increases and diversifies retailing representation, which began almost 20 years ago when the Board added its first seat for retailers.

“This representation ensures ATA Board discussions are balanced, and consider all aspects of business in our industry,” McAninch said.

Ball Release Products, said the additions make sense.

“ATA has partnered with NABA and ARRO for years because they offer their member retailers amazing opportunities by hosting product preview shows in conjunction with the ATA Trade Show,” Summers said. “Our corresponding strengths make each organization and all member partners much stronger. NABA and ARRO have sent representatives to each ATA Board meeting for over a decade. It’s only natural that they be afforded Board seats.”

Kinard said NABA appreciates the opportunity and recognizes the responsibility. “The archery business is changing, and it’s refreshing to see the ATA Board of Directors recognize the need for better representation for the independent retailer,” he said. “Adding NABA to the Board gives our 350-plus dealers a voice about what’s going on in the industry.”

Kinard joined NABA in 2005 and became a board member in 2012. He was elected president in August 2016 and oversees all NABA operations. Kinard has been in the marine-electronics sales and service business in Dallas since 1982. He added archery to his business in 2002.

He thinks his experience at All Star Archery and Marine Electronics will serve him well on the Board. That’s because the marine-electronics business has seen many of the same issues now facing the archery industry. As an ATA Board member, Kinard hopes to strengthen independent retailers, and improve communication between dealers and manufacturers.

Colgrove has similar goals. “ATA has been a force in growing archery and bowhunting in recent years,” she said. “It’s been working to help retailers be more profitable. It means a great deal that ATA has extended a Board seat to ARRO. With ARRO having a consistent voice with ATA, I hope it strengthens the relationship and communication between ARRO, ATA and manufacturers.”

Colgrove oversees all aspects of ARRO and works with its board of directors, and all ARRO members and supporting manufacturers. Since 1996 she has co-owned and operated Full Draw Archery in Omaha, Nebraska, with her husband, Kent. She is a Nebraska bowhunter education instructor, National Archery in the Schools Program BAIT instructor, and a USA Archery Level 3 coach/instructor.

The ATA Board also announced Wayne Piersol joined the Board as the Retail Council‘s vice chair. As an independent retailer, Piersol works with the ATA’s other Retail Council members — Mark Copeland and Randy Phillips — to help guide and support ATA’s retail members.

Piersol began his term July 7. “I welcome this opportunity to work with other dealers and manufactures around the globe,” he said. I hope to bring an honest business perspective of a brick-and-mortar store to the Board.”

Piersol has 38 years of archery-related experience, and has owned Archery Only Inc., a pro shop in Newark, California, for 28 years.
Standing on the line with a 134-135 score on the board and one arrow to go, two of the most experienced archers in the circuit, Gellenthien and Italy’s Sergio Pagni were head to head with the bronze medal just a shot away. Gellenthien was down two after the first six arrows, but came back to a tie and then took a one-point lead headed into the last end. Pagni, down, shot first; ten. The pressure was on, Gellenthien needed a 10 to win, a 9 to force a shoot off. He loosed a ten, solidly in the middle ring for the bronze victory.

On the path to the gold final, Anderson, who was ranked second, faced two of his U.S. teammates and just consistently posted incredibly high scores to continue advancing.
In the gold final with Taipei’s Hsiang-Hsuan Chen, the scores started a bit lower than the previous day; both opened with 28s. Chen followed that with a perfect 30 while Anderson posted a 27 with an arrow in the 8 ring. Taking the gap down to two points in the next three arrows, Anderson drilled a 29 to Chen’s 28. As the two split the next end with 29s, Anderson opened the final three arrows with a 9. He came back with an X as Chen nailed two in the X and then Chen clinched the win as both scored 9s for a final tally of 144-141.

The men’s team of Anderson, Gellenthien and Reo Wilde (Pocatello, Idaho) faced Denmark for the gold earlier in the day. The two teams have faced each other many times in recent competitions and have begun a friendly rivalry, so there was much excitement headed into the match. Denmark had a single point lead after the first end, but after joking in between rounds, the U.S. men came back strong with a 59 to turn the tides and take the lead to their side. After a 57 for the U.S. and a 58 for Denmark, the teams entered the final six arrows in a stalemate, but Denmark’s 59 bested the U.S.’s 56 to take the gold win.

Competition resumes tomorrow with recurve finals where Brady Ellison (Globe, Arizona) will be shooting for individual gold and mixed team bronze with young teammate Anna Miscione (Ramona, California).
Just about every proshop in the nation can learn a thing or two from Rob Kaufhold, owner and founder of Lancaster Archery Supply. Like many of today’s proshop owners, Kaufhold started from humble beginnings and built his business from the ground up. Ultimately, Kaufhold not only managed to build a thriving business, but a proverbial archery empire.

A key aspect of Kaufhold’s success is his prominent role in the archery community, and that’s why Inside Archery was thrilled to speak with him for the latest segment of Inside Retailing, which was focused on this topic. Kaufhold covered a lot of ground, but an important point was understanding the the value of shooting lanes and community gatherings.

In total, Lancaster Archery Supply has an incredible 55 shooting lanes. The majority are housed below the proshop in the “Lancaster Archery Academy,” but others can be found in an adjacent building dedicated solely to shooting lanes (seen in the first video below), an equipment testing section (second video), and an outdoor range.

This adjacent building provides archers with a relaxed atmosphere to practice.

The indoor testing range allows customers to conveniently try out new gear or adjust their setup.

The Lancaster Archery Academy is a popular place for personal practice, lessons or fun events like this Archery Tag session.
