Brisbane training marks the beginning of Centershot’s ministry in Australia
Centershot Ministries has officially expanded to Australia, with its first group of Basic Archery Instructors trained this week in Brisbane.
Centershot Executive Director Aaron Scheer, along with Eugeen Marais, Centershot Director for Reaching a Generation in South Africa, traveled to Brisbane to train nine new Basic Archery Instructors. The newly trained instructors are now preparing to put that training into action by launching their first community archery camp.
The training represents the first fruits of Centershot in Australia and another step in the continued international growth of the ministry.
Centershot is already active in several countries throughout Africa, North America, and Central America. The expansion into Australia demonstrates how archery can provide a common platform for ministry across different cultures, communities, and parts of the world.
For Centershot, archery has always been more than the activity itself.
Archery is the tool. Christ is the target.
Centershot equips churches, Christian schools, camps, and other faith-based nonprofit organizations to use archery as a way to build relationships and create opportunities to share the Gospel. Through instructor training, curriculum, leagues, camps, tournaments, and ongoing support, local organizations are equipped to develop sustainable archery ministries within their own communities.
The Brisbane training also demonstrates an important part of Centershot’s continued international development. Leaders from established Centershot ministries are helping equip leaders in new areas of the world. Marais brought experience from Centershot’s work in South Africa to help train and prepare the first instructors in Australia alongside Scheer.
Those nine instructors will now have the opportunity to take what they learned and begin building Centershot within their own community. Their upcoming community archery camp will be the first opportunity to put that training into practice and introduce participants in Brisbane to Centershot.
While this is only the beginning for Centershot in Australia, the same model has allowed the ministry to grow in communities around the world: train local leaders, equip them with the tools and resources they need, and empower them to use archery to reach people where they live.
The first nine instructors in Brisbane represent the beginning of that process in Australia—and potentially the foundation for reaching many more communities in the years ahead.
