Steve VanZile of the George Chapman School of Archery guided participants through both academic and hands-on training of the skills needed to service bows and turn this service into a revenue-generating business segment. Some of the topics covered included explanation of bow designs and cam systems; cam timing; replacing strings and cables; bow setup and arrow selection; and creating a price structure for service charges. Various bow tuning and adjustment methods also were covered at length.

Participants completing the course gained Bow Technician certification. This is a boon to both shop owners and customers, allowing for increased confidence in a technician’s knowledge and skill.

MOUNT JOY, PA — October Mountain Products congratulates 13-year-old Sydney Phipps of Peterstown, WV on her recent International Bowhunting Organization (IBO) Championship win. Phipps used her October Mountain Products Smoky Mountain Hunter recurve bow to capture the top score in the Youth Traditional Recurve Division. The IBO championship event was held at Seven Springs Resort in Seven Springs, PA, the weekend of August 12–14.

“The October Mountain Smoky Mountain Hunter is very forgiving and smooth from draw to release,” said Phipps. “This bow allows me to enjoy hunting, target shooting and tournament situations. The Smoky Mountain Hunter’s precision helped me win the IBO Youth Traditional World Championship.”

Phipps became involved in archery just four years ago, and has been shooting the OMP Smoky Mountain Hunter for a year and a half. In addition to IBO and ASA shoots, she is on the Peterstown Middle School Archery Team, and has been named to the 2016 NASP Middle School All-Academic Team.

“In the future, I will be shooting in many more tournaments,” said Phipps. “I will try my best to shoot in the 3 legs of the IBO and as many IBO and ASA tournaments that I can, as well as participating in all the local tournaments if possible. I would like to expand my tournaments and shoot in some indoor, NFAA, and spot shoots.”

One way Kinsey’s has been able to contribute to youth archery has been sponsoring the local high school’s Archery Club for the past 11 years. Working with NASP and two physical education teachers at Donegal High School in Mount Joy, PA, Kinsey’s was able to help the educators get training and equipment to start the club. “Way back in 2005, my physical education colleague, Mr. Derek Nissley, and I were contacted about possible interest in receiving indoor archery equipment and instructor training in a new national archery initiative called NASP,” said Dr. David Eichler, Physical & Outdoor Education teacher at Donegal. “The original equipment (Genesis bows, arrows, targets and safety screen) as well as the fee for attending training was sponsored by Kinsey’s.”

“We take 16 students to the state tournament [each year]. Kinsey’s annually inspects, tunes and replaces (if necessary) any and all archery equipment for us and sponsors the archery team t-shirt. True appreciation and gratitude is to Kinsey’s, as without the company’s continued support, there would be no archery in physical education classes, nor an archery team. Literally thousands of Donegal High School students have been exposed to archery, and as their teacher and coach, I know the countless smiles of archery success has been noticed by me,” said Eichler.

Always an integral partner, Kinsey’s will become the primary sponsor of the Camp Mack Boy Scout Camp Shoot at the 24th annual shoot to be held April 8–9, 2017. The shoot attracts 800 archers a year and proceeds go to support the Boy Scouts and Lebanon-Lancaster Scout Council. There are five 20-target courses and novelties and the shoot also features a kids course.

“Fish Juice” Kid Wins Fin-Finder #KissYerFish16 Photo Contest

MOUNT JOY, PA — Fin-Finder has announced the winner of the 2016 Kiss Yer Fish Contest. Followers on Fin-Finder’s Facebook and Instagram pages were invited to share photos of themselves kissing a fish and tagging them #KissYerFish16. The winners received the 2016 Kiss Yer Fish Kit — a Fin-Finder Poseidon Bow and Splashlight Bowfishing Light worth $429.

In its second year, #KissYerFish had an uptick in entries as well as thousands who engaged with Fin-Finder’s page during the contest. Entries included fish kissers of all ages, down to a toddler with her pint-sized trophy.

Although there were many great entries, Dane Fennessey, 12, of Union, Missouri, stole the show! Fennessey won the hearts of Fin-Finder fans (while also disgusting many), sitting in a huge tub of Carp and giving one a decidedly sloppy kiss. He went above and beyond to win the contest, posting a video to the page in addition to his photo, and exclaimed “I’ve got fish juice down my pants… but I want that Poseidon bow!”

Runner-up Benjamin Armstrong of Union City, Tennessee, all but conceded the contest upon seeing Fennessey’s entry. “That’s dedication!,” Armstrong said, “I don’t think I wanna do the things it would take to beat this…haha.” Upon hearing results of the contest, he graciously added, “The kid that won definitely earned it for sure!!!”
