105 Shooters Take Part in Kentucky S3DA Indoor

KY Indoor Champ Scholarship Winners
Louisville, KY – March 5, 2016 – In conjunction with the NFAA, the Kentucky S3DA program set an attendance record with 105 shooters at the nation’s second Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) Indoor State Championship. The location of this record-breaking event was the brand new Western Kentucky Archery Complex in Madisonville, KY. S3DA indoor rules directly match those of the NFAA, with one exception, S3DA shoots a round of 150 instead of 300.
The event boasted many positive outcomes, including more than $300,000 in college scholarships awarded to the top high school competitors by various colleges across the state. Colleges included Kentucky Christian University, Union College, and the University of the Cumberlands. Coaches, students, and parents were shocked with the large amount of money being handed out. “The scholarship opportunities awarded to S3DA Archers by colleges in Kentucky are tremendous,” said S3DA parent Stacy Gross. “They give S3DA students that may have never been able to consider attending college, the opportunity to not only think about college but attend. The college scholarships awarded also provide our already college bound S3DA students an opportunity to attend colleges that they may have not been able to consider due to the cost. Overall, the most amazing thing about the scholarships awarded to S3DA Students is that they are awarded a scholarship by simply doing something they love.”

Kentucky State Coordinator, Chris McDonald, was very pleased with the outcome of the tournament. “The Western Kentucky Archery Complex is an incredible facility and we really appreciate them allowing us to hold the Kentucky S3DA Indoor State Championship there. I am amazed at the level of participation we have experienced for our first indoor season. It is exciting to be able to offer another discipline of archery to students and help grow our sport. Colleges are recruiting our students to continue their archery career at the collegiate level is a testament to the value that S3DA provides to its participants.”

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
