MOUNT JOY, PA — Kinsey University once again offered the popular “Bow Technician Certification” course to its dealers and their staff on April 25th and 26th, 2016. Archery legend and instructor Steve VanZile of the George Chapman School of Archery joined Kinsey University to guide participants through both theoretical and hands-on training of the skills needed to service bows and turn the service into a revenue-generating business segment. Some of the topics covered included explanation of bow designs and cam systems; cam timing; replacing strings and cables; bow setup and arrow selection; and creating a price structure for service charges. Various bow tuning and adjustment methods also were covered at length.
Participants completing the course gained Bow Technician certification, benefitting both bow technicians and customers through increased confidence in the technician’s knowledge and skill.
“I have some knowledge of bow tuning, but am mostly self-taught like many in the archery industry because there aren’t many classes out there,” said Craig Racenet of CCR Sports, Inc. “It’s nice to be able to come to a
course and both reinforce what you have learned on your own as well as gain new knowledge and ways of doing things.”
Another perk to the training is an increase in productivity. “It’s always good to learn if you’re doing things the fastest, easiest, most efficient way in the shop,” said Randy Beber from Beber’s Shot and Sinker. “There’s always room for more accuracy and we have learned tricks to get your groupings tighter.”
