The Archery Trade Association is the organization for manufacturers, retailers, distributors, sales representatives and others working in the archery and bowhunting industry. The ATA has served its members since 1953. It is dedicated to making the industry profitable by decreasing business overhead, reducing taxes and government regulation, and increasing participation in archery and bowhunting. The organization also owns and operates the ATA Trade Show, the archery and bowhunting industry’s largest and longest-running trade show worldwide.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Writer for Archery360.com and Bowhunting360.com, as well as ArcheryTrade.org.
· Research and write approximately 6 articles per week, as assigned by website editor(s). Must be a self-starter, willing to independently research and analyze information and interview sources to craft content into a compelling article
· Craft compelling lifestyle, how-to and entertainment-based content that supports the ATA’s goal of using these consumer sites to drive traffic to its member’s stores and products
· Research new story ideas and contribute article suggestions to editorial team
Secondary Responsibilities:
· Secondary editor for ATA’s websites and program materials
· Serve as backup editor when primary copy editor is unavailable for work, editing articles and program content written by other staff members
Qualifications:
· 2+ years of professional writing experience, whether as a freelance writer, journalist, public relations practitioner or digital content creator
· Understands and stays current in knowledge of writing best practices and emerging trends in digital content
· Technical knowledge of archery and bowhunting
· Ability to translate technical knowledge into information that’s easy for beginners to understand
· Understands SEO best practices as they relate to photo selection and photo preparation for digital publishing
· Strong copy editing skills and working knowledge of AP Style
· Willingness to travel (approximately 3-4 times per year)
· Exceptional organizational and communication skills
· Degree in journalism, communications, writing, literature, or related field of study
· Willingness to accept and incorporate constructive criticism and coaching
· High level of attention to detail
· Initiative and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively
· Proficiency in general office software programs
· Willingness to learn to use Trello and Evernote
· Flexibility in working in a small group environment
