The Art of Bow Making: TEDTalk

The Art of Bow Making: TEDTalk – 15-year-old Seoul native Dong Woo Jang speaks of his passion for bow making and what drives him to archery. It just goes to show, we may be separated by oceans, continents, or languages, but across the world, there is a common denominator in us all that drives us to the archery industry.

Why you should listen

“His parents wouldn’t let him play video games, so Dong Woo Jang had to invent other ways to entertain himself in and around his Seoul apartment. First, he studied spider anatomy and hunting skills for three years, creating their habitat in his room. Next, Dong headed outside, where he picked up fallen tree branches and turned them into archery bows.

The Art of Bow Making: TEDTalk

Later, while researching the age-old craft, he discovered that his optimal design was strikingly similar to that of his ancestors. Though he concedes that, during his process of “fixing, breaking, redesigning, mending, bending, and amending” bows, he accidently set his building on fire. The 15-year-old says that working with wood — and traveling back and forth in time — makes him feel free.

What others say

“At 14, he already found what fascinates him in life.” — Julie Yi, on TED.com“

In South Korea’s “pressure-cooker” educational environment, 15-year-old Dong Woo Jang began to feel his caveman instincts kicking in: He needed to survive. And like his ancestors, he decided to arm up –- with a bow and arrow. As he shares in today’s talk, proudly holding up one of his handmade bows, he says, “Through bow […]

Mount Joy, PA — It is with great excitement that Kinsey’s Inc. is able to announce the acquisition of Pape’s Inc. Kinsey’s has been strategically considering opening a second warehouse for many years. A second location will allow them to serve existing customers better and reach new markets with faster service. The ability to reach a majority of whitetail states in a one or two-day shipping window will significantly improve service to independent retailers across the country, creating quicker inventory turns for their customers.

“The core values and family ownership atmosphere of Pape’s Inc. aligns seamlessly to create a strong partnership. Pape’s has been a long-standing and well-respected distributor. This acquisition brings together the two largest archery distributors in the country to create one synergized platform for which we can continue to increase the flow of products from manufacturer to dealer with increased speed and efficiency.” noted Rick Kinsey, Vice President of Sales.

The Kentucky and Pennsylvania warehouses will operate independently until there is integration to one computer system. Integrating to one computer system will require a series of steps. They will communicate those steps and any potential changes that may concern customers and vendor partners in as timely a fashion as possible. Once integration is complete, a dynamic distribution network that maximizes efficiency for both retailers and vendor partners will be in place.

Obtaining the Louisville, KY location marks a significant investment in the future for Kinsey’s. It is further evidence of their commitment to continually serving their loyal customers better. The change in ownership will occur on April 2, 2018.

“We are truly excited for this opportunity to grow our reach in the archery industry and for the benefits it will bring our customers with a greater selection of product ready to ship at a moment’s notice. We wish you all the best of luck in 2018 and look forward to continuing to earn your business.” says Justin Gorman, Director of Sales: Independent Retail, International, OEM.

For more information, contact Kinsey’s at (800) 366-4269 or visit KinseysInc.com.

The 2018 TRIAX is highly maneuverable, deadly accurate and the quietest, most vibration-free bow Mathews has ever built.

The TRIAX operates off a 28″ ATA platform with a 6″ brace height, and is powered by the award-winning, highly-efficient and extremely accurate Crosscentric Cam system producing speeds up to 343 fps.

“The high-efficiencies of this cam system allow us to design a draw force curve that stacks weight in specific areas to produce an incredibly smooth draw that stores maximum energy,” says Matt McPherson, CEO and Chief Engineer. “While Crosscentric Cam technology achieves some of the highest efficiencies we’ve ever seen, no mechanical system is 100% efficient, and that’s where our new damping technology comes into play.”

The TRIAX features new 3D Damping Technology that works to control the three perceived axes of vibration stemming from the point of contact – your grip. The design and location of the new Enhanced Harmonic Stabilizer (EHS) diminishes all three paths of that residual vibration, drastically reducing post-shot noise and virtually eliminating felt recoil. This new location also transfers weight in front of and below the grip for a lower center of gravity, resulting in increased stability and easier aiming.

“We’ve found that some of our most demanding, hard-core hunters prefer a bow that is compact, easy to maneuver, extremely quiet and has crushing downrange energy,” stated Brad Treu, VP of Sales and Marketing. “Our goal from the beginning of the design phase was to develop the most vibration-free bow we’ve ever offered, and with the new 3D Damping technology, the TRIAX is without question, just that. Shoot it next to any bow on the market and you’ll feel the difference. There really is no comparison.”

The 2018 REDWRX Carbon RX-1 series is built to perform in and survive the most extreme conditions. Silent Shelf kills noise at the arrow rest while StealthShot minimizes string oscillation after the shot. Parallel Split-Limb Technology provides an effective overall width of 2¼ inches, creating more lateral and torsional stability than that of a traditional 1½-inch” solid limb design. All-new ¾-inch Quad- Flex limbs significantly increase torsional stability and consistency, and a lowered grip position offers more optimized tuning and arrow delivery. TEC lite risers survive Hoyt’s 1,500 dry-fire test and feature vibration-stifling bridged grip design. The Zero-Torque (ZT) Hyper Cam creates a balanced side-to-side load with the new patent-pending Split-Cable System, eliminating the need for a flexible cable guard. The ZT Hyper Cam is as fast as it is smooth and is Hoyt’s highest let-off cam to date. Learn more at hoyt.com

Treezyn decided bigger, bolder, more contrasting elements and textures are crucial to disguising the human silhouette, so they set out to create a concealment pattern outside of the industry paradigm. Over 30 years of study in fractal research and natural elements led to their silhouette-vexing camo. Treezyn’s three dimensional aspect combined with a digital layout inside the pattern allows hunters to remain hidden as they walk away or sit high above in a stand. Available patterns are: Early Seezyn (shown), Late Seezyn and Vixzyn. Learn more at treezyn.com. Learn more at treezyn.com

The Perfexion XL brings to bear the full scope of Xpedition’s aerospace pedigree to influence archery design and precision manufacturing. The PXT dual limb stop hybrid cam has an unprecedented 6 inches of draw length adjustment on one base cam, features ½ inch modular draw adjustment and Xpedition signature adjustability. The Perfexion XL is fast enough for 3D in spite of its 8-inch-plus brace height, yet still prioritizes the smooth draw that target archers require for long days at the range. Its rigid riser recovers with the consistency previously reserved for shoot through designs. Learn more at xpeditionarchery.com
